I really need to stop talking about selling my cars in front of them.

First the Miata tried to thwart its own sale with sudden misfiring issues. Now the Outback XT’s clutch release bearing is marching rapidly towards failure. The clutch and flywheel will likely get roped in for replacement as well, given that the lot is original with ~120k miles at this point . If nothing else, “brand new clutch” should make for a damn fine selling point here in a few months...

Also don’t talk about the other cars in front of them.  They know, and they’ll throw a tantrum.

I’m picturing your cars in kind of a Toy Story scenario, where one is trying to convince the others that they’re not getting replaced.

Not sure what year your XT is, but I went for the single mass flywheel when my GT was in for clutch replacement. It was cheaper and I prefer it over the oem dual mass but that might just be my preference.

I would question a car needing a clutch replacement at 120k.

It makes me assume it’s been rode hard and put away wet.

Might be the clutches that were put in these cars , my pressure plate went at 100k.

Don’t think I’ve ever had a pressure plate go. That’s crazy.

My father is talking about replacing both his Jetta and his F-250 this year. The other day he went out and the Jetta wouldn’t start (one of the reasons for selling is an intermittent battery drain). So he walks around the truck to jump in the driver’s side and... bam. Left rear tire is dead flat. Never had a leak before. Hahaha, good thing he’s retired and this was just an annoyance.

2005 here. If I was going to keep it, I’d definitely give the single mass a shot , but with all the fuss I just had to go through for selling a modified car, I’m leaning towards just playing it safe with the dual-mass (even if it’s a little more expensive or potentially not as big of a deal) .

Fair, will probably have to elaborate on that point on the eventual listing to help alleviate those sorts of concerns. That said, the Subaru mechanic who helped confirmed my diagnosis was visibly shocked to learn that my clutch hadn’t been touched yet, so that might be somewhat indicative of how they (or at least their typical drivers) tend to fare.
